OBITUARY.
i MRS J. BATEY. The death of Mrs. J. Baty, of Matawhero, recalls the fact that her husband went to the Thames in August, 1871, when the goldfields were booming. He 1 was drowned after rescuing a boy from ■ a similar fate in the river, having appari ently been seized with cramp. Mrs. - Baty was born in London in 1842, came ■ to Napier in 1859, and was married two I years later. For 44 years after the death i of her husband Mrs. Baty followed the ■ nursing profession. She is survived by i three sons and three daughters.
