JUMPED INTO THE HARBOUR.
A RESCUE AT QUEEN'S "WHARF. CUSTOMS OFFICER'S PROMPTITUDE. A young married woman, jumped into the harbour from steps at the Queen's wharf last night, ou„ was scon and rescued by a Customs officer, Mr. T. 11. Q j Hook. The latter, when going along "• j the wharf, noticed a bat and bag on ' I the wharf at the top of some stops near 1' the ferry fence, ami hastened to the "steps in time to see the woman jump "'into the water. He hurried down the c stops, got hold of the woman in the c water, and managed to get her back to '" terra lirma. She was handed over to the police, who ascertained lier name to he -Marguerite Roberts (_S I and she came lx>fore Mr. J. E. Wilson, S.M.. to day on a charge of attempted suicide. A bright, neatly dressed little woman, she was highly nervous, and as tho police desired a remand to enable inquiries to be made as to the conditions precedent to her act. it was arranged that she should be placed in the care of Adjutant Cordon, of the Salvation Army, in the meantime.
