REPATRIATION.
RETURNED SOLDIERS AND THE £50 FURNISHING ALLOWANCE. Every returned soldier in New Zealand knows by this time that the Government is prepared to make an advance to all repatriated men of £50 for the furnishing of their homes, and the eager acceptance of this generous offer by those qualified to avail themselves of it is evidenced by the number of returned soldiers now daily presenting themseives at George Walker's spacious new furniture show-rooms at 38, Queen street ; (opnosite Smeeton's). That so many men should elect to sDend the Government advance for furniture at the establishment in question is not surprising, because Mc. Walker, anxious to do what he cii i personalis- to help, is making a special ( coneo=sion of his own in addition to the £50 allowance, and those of the reI patriated men who have placed the order ; ' for furniture at Walker's appear well ij leased with the treatment accorded Ito them. They say the choice of goods ; is a very wide one, while the prices wui I compare favourably with those d - -.' manded elsewhere. Well, Mr. Walker's • business methods are of the shrewdest. A He aims not at making a large piofit i! from the individual buyer, but at spread,l ing his profits over a multitude of J buyers, so that each contributes only a I' small percentage to the whole amount. ; ' Thii3 it is ihe volume of trade done that ij pays. Hence it is that George Walker . can save his customers 25 per cent., or l 5/ in the £, on their purchases, and this handsome discount is supplemented, as already pointed out in the case of returned soldiers, by a special discount.
