UNIVERSITY MEETING
_ RECOGNISED ASSOCIATION.
COMPULSORY MEMBERSHIP. j A meeting representative of all the students attending the University College was held in the college last evening Mr. K. M. Algie, law lecturer, presiding ' in conjunction with Mr. H. W. Shove, : (secretary of the Students' Association. Mr. Shove stated that for some time past the Students' Association had been unsatisfactory. It was representative, roughly, of 25 per cent of the students in the College. What was needed was a formal society which would embrace the nuuiifold activities of the students. A composite association, with whom the College Council and the Professorial Board could deal officially was a very desirable thing. To substantiate this, Mr. Shove instanced the concessions gained by the association in connection -with those students who had suffered with the epidemic last year. Mr. Shove then moved:—" That this meeting of students of A.U.C. duly convened, affirms the principle of compulsory membership of the Students' Association, and directs the existing executive to approach the College Council and Professorial Board for the purpose of securing their co-operation in giving effect to this resolution." After some general discussion, in which Mr. Ingram spoke in support of the motion, pointing out that a public interest in the College would lead to a civic interest in later life, the motion was carried almost unanimously. Mr. S. F. M. Smith then moved:— "That this meeting of students of the A.U.C, duly convened, affirms the principle of compulsory affiliation of all College Societies to the Students' Association, and directs the existing executive to approach the College Council and Professorial Board for the purpose of securing their Ico-operation in giving effect to this resolution." This was also carried. The chairman then retired, and business in relation to the Students' Association was carried on.
