A TBIBUTS FROM MERCHANTS. TO POPULAR rOST^IASTIiK. After forty-two years of continuoue service with the Postal Department, Mr. J. I. Vause, .who for mau-y years past lias been postmaster at tne KUiuU Street branch of the Auckland G.P.0.,.is to retire as from tho end of June next. Air. Vuuse actually terminated his eervice at the Elliott Street office at the end of March, the Department having given him three months' leave of absence to precede his retirement. His uniblemiehcd record as an efficient postal o/lieer of forty-two years' standing haa been the subject of spcciallj ,, recorded departmental appreciation. Twenty-two yeans of the service given by •Mγ. Vause were spent in To Anvamutu, where he ■was exceedingly popular* His retirement from tho Elliott Street office is regarded with particular regret by the merchants in that busy street, and they have seized the occasion to show, in a quiet Way, the sincerity of their appreciation of hie effieien-t administration of the Elliott Street oHice. With soft goods and other warehouses all round it, the work of this 'branch has become increasingly heavy during tho past few yeajrs. but in fixing up their tleclaraiioiis, and in attention to the diverse requirements oE their postal and mail order business, the merchants ihave found Mr. Vause unfailingly courteous and willing to be helpful.
