RAILWAY TESTIMONIAL.
NATIONAL TRIBUTE TO MR. T. RONAYNE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, this day. It has been unanimously resolved by the national executive of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, with ovct 7,000 membters in ite ranks, to promote a national testimonial in recognition of Mr T. Ronayne's efforte to improve the position of railwaymen during his 28 years' managenreiaii. of the railways. It ie suggested that the occasion of the presentation should be made a striking personal testimonial to the grand old man of New Zealand railways, and that delegates should gather from every branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants to convey personally from thousands of railwaymen their sentiments of appreciation and goodwill. "When his successor is appointed, within a month or two," states the Amalgamated Society's official journal, "Mr Ronayne will go into retirement. The railwayonen, to whom he has so long been a considerate chief, are going to let him see in a thoroughgoing way that thley appreciate the fact that under Mr Ronayne's management their work is safer than the average of the world's railway employees, and their pay as good as he could secure for them within the limitations of his position."
