In the Police Ooturt this- morning, Charles Harvey, a youiig man, pleaded guilty to a charge of bigamy, and was committed to the Supreme Court. The case presented rather unusual features. According to 1 the evidence, accused married on. Deceuiber 27 last a young woman named Riley at New Plymouth. There was evidently no. honeymoon, for "next thing' Harrey turned up at Frankton and eloped with the daughter of a, resident and brought her to Palmenston. The girl's father followed them up and found them here. The girl is still in her 'teens. A certain amount of pressure was brought to bear on accused, and he- went to the registrars office with the girl and went through a form of marriage. Rumours got about, and when accused was in.-, terr.oga.ted, he made a clean breasi; of it* The girl, in evidence,"said she was 17 years old, but age on the marriage certificate was shown as 16.
