His Excellency the Governor, Lord Liverpool, had intended leaving on Sunday on a week's tour of the North of Auckland: .His. Excellency was to have been accompanied by the Countess of Liverpool and the Hon. W. EC Herries. .(Minister for Native Affairs), and it was intended to have visited Russell, Whangarei and other places. In anticipation of their. Excellencies' arrival the Maoris haVfe been making preparations for. a reception in accord with natrae .customs. To-day, however, came news of an outbreak of enteric amongst the Maoris at Ohaearwai. a historic township mid'tfav between Kawakawa and Kohukohu, and Lord Liverpool has decided to postpone his.Northern tour, in view of the stron» recommendation; of the district health officer that no native gathering ' should take place in proximity ■'to. the'"infected area.
His Excellency- attended the swimming sports of the Auckland Boys' Grammar School, at the. Shelly Beach baths this afternoon, and to-morrow he will be pres-. ent at the benefit :crieket rnatck in. .Victoria Park. ..
Official calls were paid-to the Governor yesterday by the Mayor of Auckland and the Consul for Germany (Mr. Carl Seegner).
It is probable that his Excellency will officially open the Grafton branch, of the Public Library on the iß'th' inst..'
