BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETING.

WAIHI, this day.
A special meeting of the Waihi Borough Council wns held hist evening. Cr. Saunders presided. The Chairman explained that the business -was to ballot for twelve permanent workmen out of 27 applicants, and four gangers from seven applicants. Mr Slevin raised the question of preference to unionists, pointing out that there was a minute in Ihe books giving such preference, consequently he considered it was not legal to take a ballot of those who were not unionists. The particular minute wns then read, which embodied a request that employees should join the Miners Union. This matter was then adjourned till the ordinary meeting, and the ballot was proceeded with, and resulted in the. selection of Messrs Robertson, George, Geary, Pollen, Carter, Casley, Lamb. Walsh, ' Wilson, Trembath, Heaps, and Williams. .....e {r.nngers' ballot resulted In the selection of Messrs James, Hughes. Ritchie, and Hummer.
