AN EXPENSIVE RANGE
An a-ction to recover £4000 from the Commonwealth Government, as compensation for injuries from bullets fired upon property adjoining the Randwick rifle range, is before the Sydney courts. The plaintiffs. Thomas Evans and his wife, in 1890 purchased property c-liise to the sea. beyond tlie Randwick rifle range and the Government in 1595 reserved some land to the west of the property for rifle butts and fenced it in. The butts were vested in the Commonwealth in 1001. As a result of the sh-ooting on the range the house of plaintiffs was in danger from bullets. A considerable number of stray bullets had been found on the premises, ami bullets whizzed by them when they rli,l not hit something, 'a horse was shot in front of the house one day. The property was therefore rendered valueless as a residence. One bullet had buried itself in a fiir tree, and another hat! gone through a window in the holism. Mrs Evans' health had suffered in consequence of the alleged fnsilade, and the lives of the inmates were imperilled. The hearing has not concluded. " .
