TECHNICAL SCHOOL.
This afternoon the Education Board considered the following report from Mr. George George, director of technical education: "It is now necessary to take steps for providing apparatus and equipment for the second year's- course for each department, and the. greater part <"■:' the apparatus would have to be. imported, and should be ordered at an early date, in order to reach Auckland in February next. It will be necessary to, provide additional accommodation of a temporary character for machine shop, forge room and carpenters' and cabinetmakers' workshop. The latter has been provided in the Rutland-street building, but it is altogether tpo small for even present, requirements. 1 therefore propose to move; this department to larger premise's (the cost would be very small for moving, as there are very few fixtures), and to utilise the shop as an electrical engineering laboratory. An additional building large enough for our second-year requirements could be rented for about £100 a year. I would therefore suggest that, the Hoard should at once ask the Government for the necessary funds to provide equipment, apparatus, etc., as per attached schedules, so that orders may be placed as soon as possible. I should also like to point out that one out of the three years for which 1 am under engagement t,o the Hoard will expire on the 14th' of this month, and up to the present nothing has been clone in the way of providing a permanent technical college. It will, I think, be advisable for the Hoard to consider at an early date what steps shall be taken to acquire, a suitable site on which a technical college may be placed. Onehunga Xews
