HARBOUR BOARD.
' The following business vras transacted at the meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board yesterday nftci'ffoon:— Resignations.— The Beard received the resignations of 'two nieui'bL'rs^M'essrs W. Guiison and H. D. Heather—and it was resolved to instruct the Returning Officer to take the necessary steps in connection with the elections to lill the vacancies. Landing of Explosives.—Sergeant Forbes' report re landing of explosives at Mechanics' Bay was read.—Mr Niccol said the landing of explosives there was a very serious menace to the city.—lt was decided to receive the report and to send a copy of it to the Government, in order to show the necessity for hurrying up the licensing of the magazine hulk fitted up by the Board. It was pointed out that the magazine hulk would not do away with the carting of explosives to the ammunition factory at Mt. Eden. The Aetlng-Chairnian.remarked that no doubt the municipal authorities would stop the ■ carting of explosives through the streets. • ■'•
Committee Recommendations.wrhe reports of the Legal and Finance Committee and Works and Tariff Committee .(as already published) were read and adopted. The fol*. lowing two amendments were made in the Legal and Finance Committee's report:— 1.- That fresh tenders be called for the suppl.y of coal. 2. That the clause re leasing land In Mechanics' Bay be deferred for a month. . ■- ■ ; V Board Revenue.—The Secretary submitted^ returns of the Board's revenue for'the past six months. The returns showed an increase of revenue of £2026, as compared with the corresponding six mobfus of last year.—Mr Niccol (Acting Chairman) said the returns showed a gratifying increase in the trade of the port. There was an increase in wharfage on goods, wharfage on ships, pilotage, and all the other items of revenue.
