POLICE COURT.
THIS DAY,
(Before Mr T. Hutchison, S.M.)
. Drunkenness.—For this offence four first (offenders were convicted and discharged. A first female offender (on bail) was fined 5/ or 24 hours' imprisonment, Mary Hamilton, an old offender, was sentenced to seven days' imprisonment. Walter Townshend (third offence) was fined 10/ or in default 48 hours' imprisonment. Wm. Barker (7th offence) was sentenced to one month's imprisonment.
Creating a Disturbance. —Fredk. Poulsen and John Joseph Edmonds pleaded not guilty to creating a disturbance in the City Hall last night. Walter Rivers and Constable Mitchell ga,ve evidence for the prosecution. His Worship found the accused guilty and imposed a fine of 20/ and costs. By-laws. —For breaches of by-laws the following cases were disposed of: Wm. Neal, driving along Karangahape Eoad after sunset without a light, fined 5/ and costs 7/; Wm. ! Rogers, depasturing a cow on the public road, fined 5/ and costs 7/; Patrick Doolan (similar charge) convictled and discharged, having paid poundj age. fees; Alex. A. Regnell, failing to ikee.p sufficient light over building material in Grey-street, fined 5/ and costs. No Stamp.—lrving Clarke was charged that on Ist April he did sign a receipt liable to duty without the same being stamped. Mr M. G. McGregor appeared for defendant and pleaded guilty. He said the circumstances were unusual. Defendant, a commission agent, in the course of his business collected money. He usxially siipplied himself wth stamps to -receipt accounts, but on this particular day his supply was exhausted. He gave'Mr Merson, grocer," one penny to put the stamp on the account, but |he was ill at the time and subsequent|ly died. Subsequently the account i came into the hands of the Stamp ! Office. He asked His Worship under : the circumstances to inflict a nomi•'•nal fine. His Worship imposed a fine iof 10/ with costs 7/.
