IS SATURDAY OR SUNDAY THE SABBATH IX NEW ZEALAND.

I>~ ■ the Tailoresses' Hall, last Sabbath afternoon, the second lecture was delivered by David Xeild, of London, in reply to the Seventh Day Adventists' teaching: That Saturday is the Seventh Day Sabbath in Auckland. The position taken was that the present Day-line to mark off the end of one day and the beginning of another, which is at present in the Pacific Ocean, at 180 degrees from the Greenwich Observatory, London, is simply an arrangement! by man, and has no authority whatever from the Bible. That as man was placed in the Garden of Eden . and caused, to rest, or to keep the Sabbath, therefore, that Sabbath Day began and ended at Eden, the original home of the human family, consequently the day must take its course westward, as it does to Jerusalem, thence to London, America, across the Pacific Ocean to New Zealand, and Australia, without any break or change until it reaches the place where it commenced in Eden, and there another day would commence its course, and there man should correct his time, whether he goes east or westwards round the globe. By this Bible method of counting the days of the week, from sunset to sunset, and always westward, from the locality of Eden in Armenia, he said the true Sabbath of Paradise comes to us in Auckland on the day that is here called Sunday. Some time ago the inhabitants of Samoa and Earatonga were observing Saturday, which they believed to be Sunday. It is just the same in New Zealand and the Australian colonies, they are keeping the seventh day of the week, which they believed to be the first day. This, said Mr Nield, may be illustrated" by the fact that we in Auckland were singing the National Anthem on the Queen-street Wharf on the evening of Tuesday, the 22nd of June, while it was only Tuesday morning with them in London when the cablegram arrived. By what process of reasoning should we be singing that Anthem in commemoration of the Coronation of Queen Victoria about twelve hours before it actually took place ? However, we may differ as to the locality of Eden, surely there can be no difference of opinion as to the CGrrect location of the city of London, where the coronation was celebrated 60 years ago. Then, if ye ■will count our time as the Bible counts it, by the sunset westward, the day must come to New Zealand about 12 hour? after the time of London, and not 12 hours before it. If it is necessary for commerce and navigation, history and science, to have a day^line to keep a correct account of the days of the week, month, or year, why should there not be a Bible dayline, provided by the Creator, and revealed to us in the Bible, by which we can knoff which day of the week is the Seventh, in any part of the world ? If it is not so, then the Bible is incomplete. But we believe that the second chapter of Genesis supplies to us all the information needed on this question. The. day-line, Mr Nield says, is one of the most important Bible subjects ever introduced into these colonies, and it ought to be better understood.
