MR. J. M. SHERA.
~ M J. Jol,n McEffer Shera, who occupies 7 distinguished position of having been placed at the head of the poll in Auckland is a native of County Cavan, Ireland, evT«- w , a ? educafced - at Wesley College, in Sheffield, England. In 1867 he emigrated to South Australia, and in tne following year came over to Auckland, where he founded the firm of McArthur, Shera and Company. Hβ reared from the firm in 1876, and for some time pasb has been a member of the nrrn of Groom and Co., manufacturers and warehousemen. Mr Shera, although a new rnernbor, is not by any means a tyro in politics, having taken an active part in politics outside or the House for many years, and having been instrumental as a member of tho Auckland Central Committee some years age in sending to Wellington a united "Grey phalanx." Mr Shera waa the first) Commissioner of Education Reeervos, and waa Captain of the Auckland Cavalry in 1873.
