DHr/NKENSKSS. —Five first offenders wore ouch lined ba, or in default 24 hoars' hard labour.—John Hofi'ey pleaded puilty to having been drunk and anked that be might be dealt with leniently. Ho said that the recienb labour disorganisation had left a lot of men about the streets with nothing to do.—The Bench remarked that, ihab was no excuse for drunkenness, and as tlio accused was a second offender he was lined 10s, or 48 hours in default.

CELEBKAxrXG the Fifth. — Ambrose Stevens was charged with having on the sth of November committed a breach of tho Poiico Ofiences Act by setting oil" squiba in Mount Edon Arenuo. — Mr P. J. Hammond appeared tor tho defendant and pleaded nob guilty. —Ser-geant-Major Pratt conducted the prosecution.—Mrs Ann Lynskey deposed that the defendant let oil fireworks at her houeo and said, " I'll give old Granny » fright. She isn't insurod." She sat up all night for fear of being burned out.—Constable Haslet* deposed that he laid the information. Defendant admitted that he had been lobtiny oil' fireworks with others.—Ambrose Stevens was called, and deposed that on tho night in queetion he was lotting off fireworks in Mr Culvert's yard, Mount Eden Avenue. Hβ did nob stay outside Mrs Lynskey'a and set oil squibs. He had not in any way annoyed Mra Lynskey.—Win. James Culvert deposed thab tho tireworks were let off on bis premises. His house stood in half an acre of ground, and there was a vacant section betwenn his place and Mrs Lynskey , Parker and his wife also gave corroborative evidence for the defence.—The Bench dismissed the information.

Larceny. — Frederick Williams was charged with having on the 23rd oi October stolen a silver mounted pipe and razor belonging to John Sinclair, and valued at £1 9s.—Mr E. Cooper appeared for the defendant and pleaded nob guilty. John Sinclair deposed to missing the articles from his room in the Waitemata Hotel.— James Harris deposed that on the night in question the defendant slept at the Waitemafca Hotel in a room close to that occupied by Mr Sinclair. Accused gave the name of Jackman.—Alfred Evans deposed thab the accused gave him the arfcicles to sell for him. — George Evann deposed that ho saw the accused trying to sell the pipe.—Abraham Bowden deposed that the pipe had been sold to him by Alfred Evans, who gave the money to Williams. — John Mendoza deposed that Alfred Evans pawned the razor with him for Is. — Detective Hughes deposed to having arrested the prisoner at Waitakerei Ranges.—Mr Cooper eaid he would not call evidence, as he had been somewhat misled by the accused, who said he could prove certain things which he could not now do, so the less said the better.— Prisoner was sentonced to three months' imprisonment with hard labour. PnoHißinoN Okdkr,—On tho application of Martha Bible the Bench granted an order prohibiting persons from supplying spirituous 'iquors to John William Bible.
