PAKURANGA HUNT CLUB.
Up rouse jf, then, my merry, merry men It is our opaninK day
—Chough and Croav. To-L>_Y is tho opening day of the Pakuranga Hunt Club, and a grand meet takes place at Mr McLoughiln's (the Master's) residence at Papetoetoe. The gathering is understood to be more of a show affair that a hunting meet, and very little of the real business Avill be done. "Early this morning one or two Avell knoAvn " sports " Avere to be seen in tOAA-n, clad in the becoming new uniform of the Club. This consists of a double-breasted NeAvmarket or hunting coat of Lincoln green, Avith brass buttons, bearing the figure of a hare, and the letters P.H.C., knee breeches of Bedford cord, topboots, and black felt hat. About a dozen gentlemen have been supplied with these up to the present time, and no doubt all would appear on the field. A great drawback to the popularity of such a gathering is the fact of there being no train running to the Papatoetoe station between the hours of seven in the morning and four in the afternoon. We hope to see this altered shortly. It is questionable whether the " southerly Avind, and a cloudy sky " proclaims a hunting morning in Ncav Zealand, as accurately as in the old country, but whether that is so or not. it avus a* correct description of the weather to-day. The Pakuranga Hunt Club is an institution deserving of much encouragement in Auckland, and Aye are glad i" lr-er
increasing, and that the farmers take a lively interest in it. We hope to present our "readers Avith a description of the " meet" on Monday.
