ALARMING NEWS
TODD THE SURVEYOR KILLED AND
A HALF-CASTE WOUNDED
[Fhom tiie Hebald's Cobbespondext.] NGAEtTAWAHfA, 11.15 a.m. Survey party in Pirongia attacked at breakfast this morning by armed natives. Todd shot dead, and a half-caste wounded in the arm and thigh. Constabulary under arms. Great excitement. Militia armed patrol gone for Dodd and wounded man.
[FBOM THE CEOSS'S COEBE3PONDEST.] Alexandba, 12.15 p.m. Tood's survey party at Pirongia has been attacked by natives this morning. The rest of the party escaped. Four Maoris only were concerned in the affair. Todd is dead, having been shot through the heart. , Death was instantaneous. A half-caste was shot through the thigh arm, and side. I think they are Kawliia natives. Fritzell and party (f odd's assistants), are in the bush.' They have not yet been communicated with. Great fears are entertained for their safety. Todd's body has been brought into csmp by the Volunteers.
