SMITH'S COLONIAL STOVES.
Inclined as we are to look kindly on every effort of local industry, it is with extreme pleasure that we can, from experience, speak with confidence of an article that can hold its own against all comers, without favour or " protection." We have seen the working of a new stove, made in Auckland, and patented by Mr. Smith, which seems the perfection of a simple cottage stove. The mechanism consists of what niay be succinctly described as one stove inside of another. The Gre is placed beneath', and flame and smoke are obliged to completely encircle the inner stove before making its exit by the pipe above; and so completely is the smoke confined with, the fire that the carbon is consumed, and the heated air, unless in the exceptional circumstances of the fire being just lighted, leaves the pipe almost wholly free from smoke. All the fire is, of course, utilised, and the small quantity of fuel requisite for carefully and thoroughly cooking what is placed within is almost incredible. The stove, or oven, is neat looking, ver/ portable, and for practical usefulness far outstrips all its fellows that we have ever seen, and last, not least, it is a paragon of cheapness.
