THE NEWTON ELECTION
DECLARATION OJ7 THE POLL.—THIS DAY. This morning Colonel Balneavis, the Returning Officer, duly declared at Dewar's Academy, Newton, the state of the poll, and announced tli ,t Messrs. William Shanaghan and Robert J. Creighton were ele.-ted to serve in the Provincial Council for the electoral district of Newton. The numbers have previously appeared in this journal.
Messrs. Shanaghan and Cheeey (who were the only candidates present) returned thanks for the support accorded to them, and the proceedings, which did not appear to excite the slightest interest, then terminated.
