The last performance at the took place at the City Hall on Saturday night, and was exceedingly well attended. The uiiial curiosities were manufactured, the usual number of pretty gifts bestowed, and Madame Winter gave her delightful musical selections. Ihe wonderful glass steam engine was taken to pieces nnd explained, and the interest which these very pleasing performances elicited on their first arrival iti Auckland, continued unabated to the end. Mr. and l£fs. Woodroffe proceed for a time to the Thames, where we wish them good Cfu3hing9 and large dividends, and us they purpose returning to Auckland, we are «Uie they will be welcomed back by fall house's. We regret that inadvertently in our notice cm Saturday of the fire on board the Excelsior, we omitted to mention fehe aid rendered by the captain and men trad en» giire of tfre Argyleshire, and the more so as they were flr^fe on the scene, aad indefatigable in their efforts till tire fire was Bupprcised. As will be seen from another column a very pleasing entertainment will be given at the Mevhariic3' Institute, being a farewell complimentary benefit to Mr. Keill. As Mr, NeiU'is services in entertainments have hitherto been given grataitously, it appears to tta that he is far more deserting of a hamper benefit from the public than thosfc who hare won " golden opinions from all sorts of persons" while engaged, at the some time in winningjj golden sovereigns from the same. We trust that the public will show their appreciation of his generons conduct by filling tho Hall to-night, having the certainty of a very deligfltful entertainment.
The Cabandikts.—Wo would strongly urge the suggestion of onr correspondent " Clavichord" respecting a repetition of the " Elijah/ by the Uhorai Society, aided by the talented Oarandini family, previous to the departure of the latter for Honolulu, en roue for Europe. The lust performance was so exceedingly successful, and so delightful to lovers of music, that for many reasons it should be repeated at prices such a3 to enable " the million" to attend. We confess we should also greatly like to hear of the Carwidini family giving another short aerie* of entertainme its ab tire City Hall. We believe the announcement would afford much gratification in the city.
The letter irom a correspondent, "Inquisitive/ will appear to-morrow.
