In the copies of the Governor's speech, as published, the following important portion .had been omitted, doubtless in telegraphing As will be observed, it contains an intimation of deep interest to -New Zealand, viz., telegraphic commuuication with Australia :—

I am happy to inform you that the telegraph has made most satisfactory progress in various respects. Communication is open with Patea and Taupo, and is being rapidly extended to Tauranga. You will bo glad to learn that the New Zealand Commissioners are negociating for the construction of a cable between New Zealand and Australia. You will be asked to consider the subject.
