CITY BOARD.
A seeciaTj fortnightly meeting of the Board was held this day afc 2 p.m. Present: Mr. P. A. Philips (Chairman), . Messrs. Staines, Bugden, Macready, Sceats, Smart, Atkins, T. George, and Asher. The minutes of last meeting -were read and confirmed. Mr. Smart introduced Mr. Sceats as a new member of the Board. Mr. Sceats said that he felt the honor of heing elected a member of the Board, and trusted he would do his duty as a citizen and a ratepayer. . Mr. Atkins welcomed back Mr. Bugdg'a and Mr. George, old members of the Boa&d, who had been re-elected. • \ Messrs. G-kobge and Bugden briefly &(% knowledged the compliment. j-l SALARY AND EIYKCTIOtf OF CHAIEMAN. _,■ I The Chairman retired during the discussion! .. of this question. Mr. Q-eorge took the chair. 1^ Mr. Macbeadt said this was the usual course on the election of new members, viz.^ to elect a chairman and vote a salary for the office. He would propose that the salary be £125, as he considered the amount previously voted, viz., £75, to be insufficient for the demands made on the time of any gentleman holding the office, who must be a person holding some position in the town, and he was liable to be called away at any moment to attend to the City affairs. Mr. Smabt seconded the mfttion. The Chairman of the previous year did his duty to the satisfaction of all concerned.

Ho moved as an amendment, that the salary be £150 & "^There being no seconder to Mr. Staines' motion, it lapsed, jfr. Macbeadt S motion was put, ana Atkins moved that Mr. P. A. Philips be re-elected. He paid a high compliment to Mr Philips for the manner in which he had conducted the public business during his past term of office. Mr. BtrGDEN seconded the motion. Carried unanimously.
