A letter was received from the Superin. tendent enclosing a report from the Engineer ' in-Chief by which the nuisance at preient existing in the harbour could be abated. The consideration of this letter was also postponed. KEROSENE. A letter was read from the "Under-Secretary Mr. Macdonald, in answer to one sent to him by the Board. EOAD METAL. A letter was read from <he Superintendent offering to pay for 500 yards road metal, to be pat down in Custom House-street and Karangahape Road, at the rate of 3s. 6d. THE T.)W2T CLOCK. The following letter was read Dn this subject:— " Auckland, 31st May, 1870. " The City Board of Commissioners, " Auckland. " G-entlemen, —We have the honor to inform you, that the iahabitants of Auckland ■ have guaranteed the sum of one hundred pounds (£100) towards the purchase of a Town Clock, providing the City Board will j I supplement the fund with a like amount.

" The Directors of the New Zealand j Insurance Company undertake to bilild a tower suitable for the clock, at considerate*^' expense, and if completed it will be a great public convenience.

" The clock to be under the control and management, of the City Board, and to be kept in repair by Mr. Bartlett for two years, gratis.—We remain, yours respectfully,
