Evening Stab Office, Tuesday afternoon
Mr. G. W. Binney sold by auction to-day at the stores of Mr. W. J. Hurst, a consign** mrnt of 53 trunks men's, women's, and children's boots. The sale was largely attended, and the prices obtained unusually satisfactory.. At Mr. G. Sibbin's sale to-day, there was a good attendance, but bidding was very slack. Apples sold at.6d to 6_d per lb.; maize, 5s ; New Zealand maize, 6s; cheese, 7d; sugar, s£d ; tea, 2s 6d to 3s per lb.; boxes, 21s. Mr. S. Jones sold by auction, to-day, the first shipment of sugars from Honolulu ex Wonga Wonga, and obtained the following prices : —2OO kegs white crystals, 3|d; fine counters, 3Jd; yellow crystals, 3fd; br.wn, Bid, 3£d, and 3 5 16ths ; 9 kegs rations, 2fd and 2|d. The same auctioneer sold Belmont candles,' llj_d ; whiting, sd; salt, £3 15s to £4; Hobart Town jams, 7s; kerosene, 4s. The snle was largely attended and bidding brisk.
