By tho arrival of the steamers John Perm and Ahuririin the Manakau yesterday morning, we are placed in possession of later Southern fil^s; from which we cull the following extracts : — TARANAKI. The Herald of the 26th March, says :—The Hon. Mr. Fox was a passenger by the Phoebe, for Wellington ; and yesterday, whilst that vessel was in our roadstead he came on shore and remained a short time. Chief Inspector Branigan was also a passenger by that vessel for this place. Thb Election cor the Omata District.— We are given to understand that Henry Sewell, Esq., was to leave England in January last, and if it should be ascertained, by the mail to arrive, that he is likely to be m New Zealand in time for the next session of the General Assembly, it is the intention of some of the electors to propose him as a candidate to represent the Omata District in the House of Representatives. The native meeting atParikia ended m smoke.
