LE BON'S BAY ROAD BOARD.

O — The ordinary monthly meeting of the Board was held on Saturday, 19th April, 1924, all the members being present. Inward correspondence was read as follows:— From 'Commissioner - of Taxes, enclosing notices issued by the Department for the purpose of calling the attention of taxpayers to their statutory obligations to furnish returns of land and income tax, and asking the clerk to display the notices in the office. Letter received. From Commissioner of Taxes, asking for full names and addresses of persons and firms to whom the Board has let contracts during the year ended 31st March, 1924. I The clerk said that the information I had been forwarded to the Department. - From Messrs Meares, Williams, and Holmes, enclosing cheque for £5 16s, rates on property owned by Mrs M. A. McGullough. ' Letter received. From G. Hartley:' "Received account for rates and 10 per cent, aded, it is the first account you have sent to us, so I am sending cheque for £2 7s 10s. Hoping you will receive safely." The clerk said that he had returned the cheque as instructed by the Board, and informed Mr Hartley that a demand for rates had been posted to their address on July 24th last, and that public notice had been inserted in the "Akaroa Mail" warning ratepayers that 10 per cent, would be added to all rates remaining unpaid after 29th. February, 1924. The rates with t'he 10 per cent, added had been paid by return post. 1

From the ranger, stating that he was now in sufficient good health to resume his duties. Letter received. From Okain's Road Board, stating that at the Board's last meeting they had considered a scheme for electric lighting of streets and roads, and suggested that each local body should send delegates to a central meeting, when Mr Lewthwaite would be asked to attend and explain his scheme and give an estimate of costs of lighting etc., also asking the Board if agreeable to such meeting to suggest a suitable date and place for the conference. After some discussion it was resolved that the chairman and any member who wished to attend should act as the Board's delegate, and that a sale day at Duvauch.ell.es would bo most suitable for such conference. Boundary Road.—• Mr O. Thelning waited on the Board asking that some repairs be made to the Boundary road from Mould's crossing to make it fit for wheel traffic, as he was directly interested in the condition in that part of the road, he offered to do the work himself as he knew best what was required. It was resolved that Messrs Mould and Gurney, members of the Board, with Mr Thelning, go over the road to see what is required, and that Mr Thelning will specify in writing what he is prepared to and if the •price is reasonable and does not exceed £20, the members may accept his offer, subject to the Board's approval at its next meeting. It was resolved that the clerk write to the Akaroa County Council for permission- to crush a stack of metal on Summit road, the Board to keep the road open for traffic while the work is going on. Metal. —Mr Dalglish asked for permission to take 15 yards of metal at McLeod's quarry on the Hill road, ■usual royalty. Permission granted. Pound Cottage.— Mr J. Nelson asked to have his lease renewed for another seven years, the present lease having expired. After some discussion Mr Dalglish moved and Mr Mould seconded that Mr Nelson be given a lease for three years with the option renewal for another two years.

Carried. Mail Service Subsidy.—An application was made to the Board for a sum of £15 to subsidise the Le Bon's Bay Mail Service. Mr Macphail moved and Mr Mould seconded that the sum of £15 be granted. Carried. Men's Wages.—While working- on the bridges, the discussion on this matter was held over from last meeting to a full meeting of the Board, of which notice had been given to all members. Mr Dalglish moved and Mr Macphail seconded that the men's wages be increased 2s per day while they were working on the bridges. Mr Mould moved as an amendment that the men's wages remain as at present. Seconded by Mr Gurney. On the amendment being- put only the mover and seconded voted for it. For the motion Messrs Dalglish, Macphail, and Elliott", against Messrs Mould and Gurney. The chairman declared the motion carried. The foreman's report was read and approved'. The clerk was instructed to pro-! cure a Wages Book. I The clerk reported that the Board's Books had been audited and certified correct. Accounts.—Mr Elliott moved and Mr Macphail seconded that the accounts as read amounting to £163 Is 5d be passed for payment. Carried. The Board then adjourned.
