PUBLIC MEETING AT LITTLE RIVER.

A public meeting was held at the Library, Little Rivet, on Friday evening, 31st, August, 1877, to nominate members to serve as a Managing Committee for the Little River Cemetery Reserve. The attendance was not large, owing, probably, to the southerly buster, that was travelling through the township at the time. On the motion of Mr Coop, Mr Powrie occupied the chair, The Chairman briefly explained why the meeting had been convened, and having read letters from Mr Montgomery, and also several clauses from the Canterbury Cemetery Reserves Ordinance, relating to the management &c, of the Reserves, asked the meeting to nominate a committee. Mr Coop, moved that the committee consist of three members, and proposed the following gentlemen :—Messrs R. Powrie, G. R. Joblin, and J F. Stanbury. Mr W. Greenland, seconded the motion. Mr W. Joblin objected to persons being proposed who were not present, • and moved that Messrs R. Powrie, James. Reynolds, and YV*. Coop be nominated. This motion was seconded by Mr G. Sefton. Mr John Reynolds thought it was not wise that the numbers should be limited to three members and would move, as an amendment, that the committee consist of five members, viz.:—Messrs. R. Powrie, James Reynolds, W. Coop, G. R. Joblin, and W. Greenland. On the amendment and motions being put to the meeting the Chairman declared the show of hands to be in favour of the former. A vote of thanks tc the Chairman terminated the proceedings.
