ORIGINAL POETRY.

JUST BEFORE THE " FASHIONS," MOTHER.

A Sequel to the " Dress of Sighs." I am going for a week, mother, Where's my horrid " Shipton's shoe," Hobbling, crippled, like the others, I must do as " Fashions " do. Fori am Fashion's child, mother, Fair I know but fickle too, And though very false to others, "Fashion," dear, I am true to you." Just let me come to tl at mirror ; . Is my hat enough askew ? Too much? pshaw! why, what an error, 'Tis the " Fashion," and I'm true. Hat looks " rakish," don't it, mother, Tipp'd on one side, saucy too ; You say " too fast," right, my brother, But 'tis " Fashion," and I'm true. Bracing winds may blow now, mother, I am tightly braced up too, No full skirts to turn me over, For to " Fashion " I am true. I own we look great guys, mother, Our dress is over manly too ; But if it is the fashion, mother, What can we poor idiots do. In the ballroom naked nearly, Skin and bones exposed to view, Everyone can see quite clearly, I to " Fashion " am most true. You say I look a " fright," mother, Honestly I think so too, And it is not right, mother, Yet to " Fashion " I'll be true. But I am growing tired, mother, Weary of our shaming too, For though the ivorld's a sham, mother, We're the greatest of the two. I'll bid goodbye to '•' Fashion," mother, And I will take a long adieu ; Of its wasteful pageant, mother, And its silly chattering crew.
