GERMAN FLEET.
MINISTER'S STATEMENT,
LONDON, February 2?
In tho House of Lords, Lord Lytton, replying to a question regarding 'the disposal of the German fleet, said thatr that must be decided by the Paris Conference. The proposal to sink the fleet Avould only be adopted if the representatives of the nations unanimously concluded that that ivas the best course. The British attached the utmost imoortance to the view ' that the ships should not continue to form part of any naval armament or henceforth be used as ships of Avar. There remained, three alternatives: Firstly, to sink the vessels: secondly, to break them up; and .thirdly, to sell.them under certain conditions. It ivas simply and solely an economic proposition Avhether it would pay to break them up or use them for other purposes.
