MEETINGS.
HIGH SCHOOL BOARD
The monthly meeting of the. Ashburton High School Board was held this morning,- there being present: Messrs J. Tucker (chairman), C. Reid, W. Oakley. G. H. Buchanan, W. B. Denshire, and A. Drummond.
The headmaster, Mr W. F. Watters, reported that tho school roll was 206 (106 boys and 100 girls). Of last year's roll 124 pupils had returned (69 boys and 55 girls), while 82 new pupils (37 boys and 4.5 girls) had been admitted, makinsr a total of 206, including 18 in the preparatory school. The average attendance since, the opening of the school had been 180, or 88 per cent, of the roll number. The number of' eapitating free-place pupils was 166, and there were 12 fee-paying pupils. There were 31 boarders in the boys' rectory, and 15 in the girls' hostel. He enclosed a list of apparatus and chemicals reauired for the teaching of chemistry.— Adopted.
Mr C. Reid and the Rev. G. Miller were appointed a visiting committee for the ensuing month.
Accounts amounting to £324 were passed for payment.
