REPORTED EVACUATION OF CZERNOWITZ.
PETROGRAJD, January 5. It is becoming clearer that the Russians have taken the initiative on the southern frontier.
It is reported 'that the enemy has evacuated Czernowitz, where many Germans were taken prisoners.
LONDON, January 5. ; A Router message confirms the report of the evacuation of Czernowitz.
Czernowitzj the capital of Bukowina, has already .changed hands several times during the war. It is an important town .on the south side of the Prufth, about 12 miles west of the junction of the ; Roumanian and Bcssarabian frontiers.
