THE STRATEGIC EFFECT.
VIEWS OF' AN EXPERT.
LONDON, May 27. The military correspondent of the "Times" says" that the Italian offensive, . following quickly upon the declaration . of war, indicates that Italy's mobilisation was probably complete before diplomatic relations were suspended. The march towards the Izonso is proof of the confidenpe with ■which the army seeks an early and serious encounter with -its hereditary enemy. Italy's- entry into the field
at this juncture is !a severe '- blow to Austro-Qerman strategy, which was gambling upon the great offensive ifl Galicia in the hope that a startling success there would cow Italy into passivity. It will be interesting to watch the effect of the Italian move upon future Austro-German strategy.
