BATTLE OF THE SAN.
CONTINUES WITH GREAT INTENSITY.
The High Commissioner reports under dato London, May 28 (10.13 p.m.):— Petrograd reports that in the region of Shavli the Russians were successful 0n..-Tuesday and Wednesday. Progress was made south-west of the-Muraviewo-Shavli line, and the Lower Dubissa, repulsing the enemy's offensive and capturing several hundred prisoners, automobiles, and other trophies. Dobra, on the enemy's right, or. Tuesday, was bombarded with heavy artillery. In the region of Ossowiec the enemy attempted a fruitless offensive under cover of asphyxiating gas. ' East of Jedwabno, and several sectors of ;tbe,Mareu'.front, were active with artillery and rifle firing. In the region of Vißtula-Bzura the Russian Light Infantry bayonetted fi'! of the enemy in a successful skirmish with pickets. In the direction of Opatow the enemy made barren attacks in great force. In Galieia, on Tuesday and Tuesday night, the enemy attacked the whole front on the Upper Vistula and the left of the San, and were everywhere repulsed with great loss. An intense and stubborn battle on both banks of the San, between Przemysl and the River Lubaczowka, and between Przemysl and the great marshes of the Dniester, continues. In the region beyond the Dniester, on Tuesday, the enemy opened a determined offensive on the whole front of the great marshes of the Dniester to Dolina. On this and the following days the enemy suffered enormous losses, but wore nowhere successful.
