SUGAR FAMINE AVERTED.

SYDNEY, May 23. Mr Knox, in a letter to the Press regarding his cablegram to Java ordering sugar, declares that one cable .message was held up for two days, and as a restdt of the detention the sugar was re-offered at a higher price. He <ould only accept because his company was bound by its arrangement with the New South Wales Government to provide a supply during the shortage period. (Received May 29, 10 a.m.)
