Ashburton Trotting Club.
A meeting of the committee of the Ashburton Trotting Club was held at Mr C. J, Styohe's office on Saturday afternoon; present:—Messrs Donald McLean (chairman), George Robertson, A. j». Foster, J, McConachie, L. McDonnellyfJ. Shearman J. McDonnell, T. Bishop, JT.'N, Thompson. VOTE 03? CONDOLENCE. The chairman said since their last meeting they had to mourn the loss of one of their most energetic colleagues. He referred to the death of their late treasurer Mr Wm. Sutherland. He spoke in eulogistic terms of the excellent services rendered to the club by their late colleague. The deceased was a great employer of labour, and was not only a credit tp the Trotting Club but also to the whol6 county. Their secretary (Mr Styche) on behalf of the club, had forwarded a; wreath to he put on the grave, and had a,lso written a letter of condolence tp the family. All the members present knew of what sterling worth Mr Sutherlaud had been to the club. Mr Robertson— Mr Sutherland has rendered more charitable aid in this county than most people know of. His place in the district will be hard to fill.
The chairman (continuing) said he moved that a vote of condolence with the family be placed on the minutes, as well as the Club's appreciation of the service? of the deceased to $Ke Ojub,. ' Esr Robertson'seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously. - ?,
I < DIVIDENDS. . .! It was decided to pay out two dividends should seven* horses or more starb in any race at the forthcoming Spring Meetings TOTALISA^OB STPW4BO. ? Mr E, J. Righton was appointed totallsator steward fpr the forthcoming meeting. TBEASpEfiB, Mr J. H. Shearman was unanimously appointed treasurer of the club. NEW MEMBEBS. Eighteen new members were elected, COMin<rT?ESf4N, Mr James Sutherland was appointed to the committee, vice Mr Shearman, appointed treasurer. IIEPROVEMStfTS TO COURSE. Messrs E, McDonnell, J. H. Shearman, and J, G. Maconachie were appointed to see to the course improvements and other minor matters with regard to the grand* stand. ■ .. ■ '■■■;.■■ CORRKSPONbBNCE. From the Traffic Manager, granting excursion fares on the railway for the club's meeting on 6th November.—Received. Thiß concluded the business.
