THE MANAWATU LAND SALE.

The long expected sale of town, suburban, find rural allotments in the townsbipa of Foxton, and Pahnerston in tbo Mana?walu. district, commenced on Nor., 7th at the Land Oflice, at one o'clock; Mr. Holmesollieiatinp; us auctioneer. There was an excellent attendance at the Balo yesterday*, consisting principally of settlers in the district, and tlio bidding was occasionally very spirited. Upwards of 200 allotment*, were offered for sale, and some of those that were sold realised very much more thaifc. the upset prices. The town sections of Foxton were first pub up ; section 51. andb some others creating considerable competition. These sections being town allotment* formed the most important portion of the sal* and were principally bought by settlers iv the district. The lands has in a few sections been already occupied and improved* and in these cases . a prico was put on the improvements beyond the purchase moneys in lot 50 for instance, the improvements wewr valued at £200. The suburban sections tvera next put up in pieces varying from 1 acre to 24 acres at upset prices, ranging from £2 IQbf to £10 an acre, and reached generally an advance on the upset price. The rural sections^ some of which contained 400 or 500 acres* were then put up. Those sections rea^ liscd generally an advance ou the ttpaefc price, but Captain Eobinson was the only largo purchaser. This closed the sale for the day, but there still remain to be sold sections in the township of Piilnicrston, and ia theJVlotoa and Eariri blocks. The sale wilt therefore be continued to-morrow, &i noon, and not to-day, as there is a large Bale of allotments, of the Eeclaimed Land^tot take place at 1 o'clock, at the Empire Hotel. The following is a complete list of the lofe sold yesterday; their contents, upset price* amount realised, and the names of the purchasers. An inspection of the list will show that prices haro been realised for this land much greater than have ever before been obtained in Wellington, and that the chief bidders were persons resident in the districtThis speaks well for tho confidence which is evidently felt in the future of the Wellington. Province, and shows that its real estate haft enormously increased iv value. TOWNsnir of foxtok — towjt sections.
