MASTERTON PICTURE COMPANY.
"THE CHIEF'S BLANKET."
To-night, at the Town Hall, the Mastertou Picture .Company will screen their usual bi-weekly change of programme, which includes a thrilling feature coloured drama by the famous Gaumont Co. It ia entitled "Margrave's Daughter," and is a beautiful production. A tale of the olden days, it tells the story of the love of a princess for a commoner. Their trials are many, even to the condemnation of the hero to the scaffold. Here the princess follows to share her lover's fate, when her father's heart is softened, and au ends in happy matrimony. Another startling picture is "The Chief's Blanket," an excellent study of the character of the Bed Indian. A sacred duty devolves upon the "brave," who is posted to see that no on-3 removes the dead chief's blanket from the funeral bier. In this case the sentry is caught unawares, and the ignomy attaching to him for his lapse resulted in the '' brave being killed in an attempt to recover the precious blanket from an innocent white woman. The Edison drama, "in His Father's Steps," is_ a simple story of love in a. humble village. A tale of a coastguard's love for the daughter of a smuggler, entitled "The Smuggler" develops until an exciting climax is reached. "Environs of Amsterdam" is a capital si'.enie, and "Williams' Weekly," well studded with topical doings in various Australasian centres. "Peter Pickles' Wedding" and "Friscot as a Botanist" are irresistibly funny. The above pictures, together with several other subjects, will also be screened at the children's matinee this afternoon, at 2.30 o'clock.
