The ' ' Church Times " says :—The great majority of people- still desire ours to be a Christian country. This it cannot be unless the children/ are taught religion. At present" we are still influenced by the Christian tradition of the pasti. But Christianity cannot be absorbed, so to speak, from the air. It must be taught;. It must be taught as an intrinsic part of edu-, cation, not as a onc6-a-week optional supplement; Every patriot knows that the root-evil among us to-day is selfishness, that selfishness lead_s to disunion, and disunion to dissolution. -And the one- effective antidote to selfishness is the teaching of Jesus Christ. Setting aside other considerations,/ simply from' the point of view
of future it is supremely needful that our young be given Christian teaching. They realise that the common danger is too great for indulgence m controversies of the old type. .The real leaders of <Non<conr , formity have broken away A from tradition, andi Churchmen who really . understand how t^e whole of Christ tian. educatib.n, and not merely the' kind they themselves: prefer, is menacedtorday are keenly anxious to ihake with other Christian bodies a
