THE EDITH O'GORMAN RIOTS ROITS IN NEW SOUTH WALES.

The fallowing are the particulars given in the Sydney papers of a not that took place at Lismore, 400 miles north of Sydney, at a lecture by Miss O'Gorman, the escaped nun, in the Albert Theatre. A body of men (fommeuccd groauing and throwing eggs aud stones on the stage. All attempts to preserve order were useless. The Oathoiics and Orangemen had a free fight; both parlies resorted to chairs and stockwhips, &c, to defend themselves. Several persons ou both sides w ere much injured. The Catholic party then took possession of the hall and made speeches until 11 a t night, when the excitement subsided, There were a few police present, but they could do nothing to restore order. It is stated that if the Orangemen had stood their grouud the consequences would have been serious, as there is no Magistrate at Lismore to read the fiiofc Act. Another small fight took place in the towa next morning. As the Orangemen say they will staud their ground, and repeat the lecture, the Jjrafton police have been sent for. There were GOO people xn the theatre at the time of the not. Ladies and others got through the windows the best way they could.

l'he Government have received a telegram Lorn Lismore, stating that the sectarian feeling is running very high, owing to the disturbances over the Edith O'Qormau lectures. Members of the local Orange Lodge have endeavoured to burn down the Lismore Convent in retaliation, and the Roman Catholics have armed themselves with revolvers. Bloodshed being feared, Government have ordered a number of special constables from both sides to be sworn in, to arrest all persons resorting to violence. A later telegram states that tlio leaders on both sides were rounding up every mau available.
