OBITUARY.
MR GEORGE FRIEND. .Per Pkess Association.! WELLINGTON, July 19. Mr George Friend, clerk of Parliament, died this morning after a long illness. At the beginning of the present session he obtained leave of absence, and has been sinking ever since. He entered the Civil Service as a clerk in the Audit office in ] 854, and was appointed assistant clerk of Parliament in 1862 and clerk in 1889. It is propable that the House, on meeting this afternoon, wiil adjourn till 7.30 as a mark of respect. The House has adjourned till 7.30 p.m. on account of Mr Friend's death. On the motion of the Premier, seconded, by Mr Rolleston, the House carried a resolution of condolence and regret.
