THE STRANGEST WOMAN IN THE WORLD.
Undoubtedly the most remarkable and Btrangesfc woman in the world is Misb Evatima Tardo,.says a writer in Til-Bits. Although she is not known to tho public, she has been 1 known to tho medical fraternity for years, and has boon a inystevy to thousands of physicians, both on the, Continent and America, who have Been., her. She is twenty-six years of age, and all through her life has never experienced the sense of touch. She is utterly devoid ' of physical feeling, and, moreover, is proof r againßt disease. She can thrust pins uilo her body, and all she feels is a slight jar. Needles thrust under her nails, a. red-hot iron applied to her skin, a gasli oi ! n knife, all mean nothing to this woman. She Teeln nothing, and in an hour or two the wound is healed. She has also\control over the circulation -of her blood. A. gash can be niado who'ro there is no way for a surgeon to stop tho .flow of blood. Mss Tardo, however, can ratop it in a second, and then permit it to ■flow again. Thispower over the circulation of her blood is looked upon by physicians as being more "wonderful than hot* ability to stand all krnds of experiments " which physicians have submitted her to. Miss Tardo is :proof against poison. She has been bitten by the most venomous snakes, whose bites have caused no appar* ent ill effects. She will take these creatures up in her arms and force them to bite her, irritating and pinching them until they do so. Such deadly cultures as cholera germs, diphtheria, consumption and typhoid fever have been injected into her blood, but she has no fear of contagion, for she was not troubled in the least. She has also been shot in various fleshy parts of her body, but the wound has always healed, uud Bhe has suffered no damage. It has been declared, however, that there are three ways that would end this mysterious woman's life. The penetration of the ganglionic centres, just above the heart; would result in instant death. Scientists believe that direct injury to tho brain or the spinal cord would also destroy her life. She was bom on the Island of Trinidad, in the West Indies, and comes from mixed ancestry. She cannot remember having the sense of feeling. When she was five years of age she was bitten by a cobra. Her parents thought she-was bound to die, and were amazed when she went about as usual, feeling no inconvenience whatever from the effects of the bite. She is a veritable wonder "to the physicians of both
