THE FRUIT DUTIES.
Ministers to-day received a telegram from the Colonial Treasurer of Tasmania protesting against the duties on fresh fruit. A reply has been sent stating that the duties referred to are not imposed in an unfriendly spirit, but for revenue purposes, and hoping that the good relations between' this colony, and Tasmania will not be disturbed by these dutieß being adhered to. It may be pointed out that the threat of retaliation comes with bad grace from a colony that imposes heavy dntieß on most articles it receives from New Zealand.
