Cup win- ner, Halberdier, made his lucky pur- chase of this horse when on a holi- day trip from Wanganui to his native place — Auckland. A while ago, some Aucklanders, just returned from the racing on the East Coast, brought up such doleful accounts of a " leg " troubling Halberdier that no one would have him at any price. One Auckland layer, who had a Rood bit about him, felt " sick "on it, and when later the . public did come for the horse, he let them have it and made him the worst horse.
