The Gambling Mania
The Herald gives publicity to a statement that somebody at Whatawhata " is the lucky winner of the first prize in an art union got up at home, the tickets to which were only sixpence each. He has received a letter by last mail stating that his ticket had drawn a tiara of diamonds, and asking him whether he will take the diamonds or. the alternative money value, £200." The whole thing is likely a swindle, as such lotteries are illegal "at home." In any case, is that the way the Herald takes to discourage gambling ?
