Salvation Army Nuisance.
Now that Mr Upton is seated in Auckland's Mayoral chair, I trust he will take some steps, if not to prohibit, at least to keep within bounds the fantastic freaks of these saved (?) fanatics of the Harmy. While not advocating such drastic measures as those embodied within the municipal bye-laws of the Borough of Napier, I certainly am of opinion that the police should have power given to them to prevent the Hallelujah howlers blocking the Btreet corners to pedestrian traffic. I would suggest as a remeci v that their demonstrations should be strictly co ■
fined to the back streets, where they find t ■ class they profess to be so anxious to " convert, " and they should not be permitted to monopoK-i the corners of Quay-street, Victoria-street a.>.i other leading thoroughfares, to the annoyat;. c of law abiding citizens, and the perhaps softly muttered execrations of a long suffering public.
