The Patriotic Graham.
(A GISBORNE BALLAD.) Let others sing of Peace and War And heroes of renown ; I sing a noble M.H.E. Of famous Gisborne town, Who recently his seat resigned, When Fortuue, cruel dame, To him proved terribly unkind — The patriotic Graham. Yes, Andrew was a patriot true — That's clear as noonday sun ; The sort of blooming patriot to Look out for number one ! Himself and ' Co.' to represent, That was his little game When down to Wellington he went— The patriotic Graham ! Though when he on the hustings stood To do his little spout, He said 'twas for the people's good Entirely he came out ; He had no little axe to grind, Like others he could name ; The Gisbornites thus did he blind— The patriotic Graham ! He trotted out the working man, As politicians do ; 'Twas in his interests he ran Against the swindling crew Who robbed the people of the land, Whioh was a crying shame ; His services they could command — The patriotic Graiinm ! And so they put this j,-''°r in, And thought they'd v ■ ■« a stroke ; They stuck to him and So. red a win, And didn't see the joke ! But Ballance, bless you, took his size, And spoilt his little game, And so he failed to make a rise — The patriotic Graham.
