The Gospel According to Hill
That versatile genius, the Eev. Joseph Hill, appears to place a very wide interpretation upon his commission to "go into all the world and preach the Gospel." Having smashed up Henry George, settled the questions of Work and Wages, Free Trade and Protection, etc., he is now devoting his Sunday afternoons to discoursing on " The Administration of Justice in Auckland." Judging by the tenor of the two discourses already given, a more suitable title would be " The Administration of Injustice ;" for really it seems that justice is rarely to be found within the walls of our law courts. Without discussing that point here, I would simply remark that perhaps Mr Hill is not far mistaken in supposing that these topics ought to be ventilated from the religious platform. It is righteousness that exalteth a nation, and if our legal .procedure and prison system are as rotten as Mr Hill seems to consider them, it is the duty of religious people to raise their voices. I hope, L however, that in his future discourses, Mr Hill will deal less in hint and innuendo, but will hit out straight from the shoulder. He is absolutely protected in making allegations which are for the public good, and if he is fully persuaded in his own mind as to the Tightness of his advocacy, he ought to speak out boldly and fearlessly.
