THE CAPTURED SHIP SARANAC.
GREAT DEMAND FOR COAL. Received April 29th, 9.45 a.m. Svdnbt, April 29. The Saranac, which was captured by the Spaniards off the Philippines, left Newcastle with a cargo of Wallsend coal consigned to an American firm at Ilvila. She was under the command of Captain Bataby, who was part owner. The demand at Newcastle for tonnage for Californian ports is very brisk and very large orders for coal for the same destination are reported. One firm has been approached by cable to supply be" tween 20,000 and 30,000 tons ;for use by one or other of the belligerents.
