The top of this Elevator is one ef Chatwood's Check Bafes, which effectu-lly closes all the keyholes, and locks out even the persons having charge of the kova. In 1877 Mi Chatwood designed and erected for the Union Bank of Scotland, Glaßgow, the largest Steel Strong Boom m the World, 50 feet lung, fitted with three of his Patent Intersected Steel Doors and Grip Frames, and divided into three chambers by two double eteel walls, with idled girders between, m which double walls are fitted two of Chatwood's Double-sided Safi.ty Doors, accessible from either side. Each chamber is lighted and ventilated by one >/f Chatwood's Patent Ventilating Lamps, and fitted with interior Safes and Treasury. The floor of this Steel Room ia protected by a notwork ef Chatwood's Pateat Hydro-pneumatic Tubes, which, on being tampered with can be made to sound an alarm m Manager's Boom and Police Office. One of Chatwood's Patent Hydraulic Elevators, lifts four tons of Books out of its Strong Boom into Bank Room m Accountant's Department, and another one m Transfer Department lifts two tons. The top of this latter Elevator is used to carry hoary stationery to top of building, and suspended tray at bottom serves to carry up and dowu customers' plate chests from and to plate room m basement.
